Magical Beauty In Your Home

by
Melisa J. Verch

I love the transformation that comes with spring.  Color speaks to my heart like few other things can, and so every year I am deeply moved by the spring display.

It starts out with a hint of greenery as the trees are starting to bud out and ends with a rainbow of colors as azaleas, dogwoods, impatiens and irises brighten the landscape.

In decorating, especially in decorating a new home, you'll want to bring this magic inside. When you plan your garden this year be sure to include flowers that will work well in cut bouquets.  This will enable you to enjoy their fragrance and beauty in your home and office as well as your yard.

Stunning Flowers
A mixture of colors, textures and shapes
create an interesting arrangement.

You can achieve beautiful flower arrangements by following a few simple guidelines:

1.) Think About The Size Of The Arrangement
In Relation To Where It Will Be Placed.

You don't want to overpower a small hall table with an oversized vase full of large sprays of foliage nor do you want your sweet bouquet to feel lost on a large surface.

Keep the arrangement low on the dining table so that your guests can easily have eye contact as they converse.  A height of nine inches is a good rule of thumb.

In contrast, create a tall arrangement for the buffet table so that it is out of the way of the food you are serving.

2.) Combine Buds And Fully Bloomed
Stems In Your Design.

The largest flowers form the base of your arrangement and the buds create a halo over them.  The continual blooming will add to your enjoyment.

3.) Mix Colors, Textures And Sizes for
The Most Interesting Arrangements.

Just don't mix formal and informal stems,i.e. roses and daisies.

4.) Turn The Face Of The Flowers
In Different Directions.

Clip the stems so that they are different heights. Think about how they grow in your garden and recreate that natural design.

5.) Your Arrangement Will Last Longer If You
Can Place It In The Refrigerator Overnight.

Heat will wilt your flowers quickly so avoid placing them near a heat vent or in direct sunlight.

You can also prolong the life of the flowers by removing all leaves that will be underwater.  This keeps harmful bacteria from forming and attacking your flowers.

6.) Share The Joy

There is such joy in sharing your homegrown efforts with friends and family.  However, sometimes distance keeps us from delivering flowers to them in person.  Call the pros and let them create and deliver the perfect bouquet for you.

There is something so magical about flowers.  I hope you take the time to decorate your home with them this week.
