Why are model homes so compelling?
|
|
If you love to visit model homes the way I do, you will
notice that they always have the dining room and kitchen
table set with great dishes and accessories.
It draws you
in and makes you feel apart of the home. You immed-iately
envision yourself serving a holiday meal in the perfectly
decorated dining room.
The bright breakfast area invites you to linger for a second
cup of coffee. The great thing about this type of decorating
is that you can duplicate the magic in your own home quickly
and easily.

Five Quick Ideas To Get You Started
1.) Throw a matalasse coverlet over the table for a
wonderful textured covering. A larger tablecloth peeking
out underneath the coverlet will give you a layered country
look.
2.) Place a white pillar candle in a clear glass jar or bowl
and fill the container 1/3 of the way with coffee beans. A
group of three of these candle holders make a crisp and
fragrant centerpiece.
3.) Instead of placemats use two horizontally laid table
runners. The results will be a clean line down each side
of a rectangle table.
4.) With sculptures, vases or tall candle holders create an
artistic display. Place your creation on each end of the
table. Who says the centerpiece actually has to be in the
center? Just make sure it doesn't block views when you have
guests.
5.) Pretend you are throwing a wonderful dinner party. Set
your dining room table with beautiful dishes and glassware.
Jazz up the cloth napkins with interesting napkin rings.
Place small figurines from a favorite collection among your
tableware. Don't worry about tradition. Experiment until
you have created a tabletop that makes you feel happy.
Leave it for everyone to enjoy.
A Bonus Idea - You Can Do It!
Custom chair pads are expensive but you can create semi-
custom made for a small price. Buy solid color thick chair
pads in the housewares department of a discount store.
Remove the ties and stitch on wide ribbons. You can also
make your own ties by cutting 4 inch strips of fabric and
hemming the edges.
Add to the chair cushion idea by making napkins from the
same fabric you used for the ties. If you used ribbon for
trimming, a smaller width of the same design can be sewed
or glued (with special fabric adhesive) to purchased napkins.
Beds layered with high-count sheets, comforters, throws
and lots of pillows are so inviting. Dust ruffles puddle or break on the
floor the same as window panels. The effect is luxurious.
