Top It Off With Personality

I love the feel of a newly painted room.  Everything about it says "fresh!"

In the process of moving the furniture, you vacuum up the dust bunnies and all the Cheetos that have fallen behind the cushions.  The room is de-cluttered and the walls sparkle with their new coat of paint.

It is a feeling of renewal, all for the price of a can of paint and a day of work!

When you last painted, did you give any thought to the ceiling?  Is it the same white that the builder sprayed up there?

Trey Ceiling

Faux finishes and a handpainted design make this dining room ceiling absolutely stunning.

Look Out - Above

Your ceiling is the largest uninterrupted space in the room. You don't put furniture in front of it, you don't hang art on it.  It is just up there waiting for you to give it personality.  A great time to do this is when you are decorating a new home.

How can we take this space from an unfinished look to something with pizazz?  Let's explore a few options.

A Touch Of Color

If your room has a low ceiling put color on it but go lighter than the walls.  Choose one of the lightest shades on your paint sample strip to visibly open up the space.  In a room that stands taller, finish it off with a darker hue to add drama.

You don't have to be Michelangelo to create a ceiling that attracts attention.  Paint the area and give it a color wash for the second coat to bring texture to it.  A subtle difference between the base coat and the top wash will give you depth in a quiet way.

Bring Out The Tray

Paint particularly suits tray ceilings and allows you to enhance this architectural feature.  Use variations of the same color or use a soft contrast to draw the eye upward.

I saw a wonderful master suite where a swirl design, featured in the window treatment fabric, was repeated on the inner part of the tray ceiling.  It was gorgeous!

A Quicker Trick

You may be ready for a change but don't want to do a major paint job right now.  A quick way to add interest is to paint a design in the corners!  Stencil or free hand a graphic such as you might see at the corner of an area rug.

In a child's room or bathroom you can paint something fun such as balloons or butterflies.  Craft stores carry paint stamps that can make this a quick and easy project.  (Practice on poster board first).

Look up this week and see a world of new possibilities.
