A Quick Change With Big Results
Holiday Weekend! Aren't those great words?

I have friends heading to the mountains and others to the
beach to kick off the summer. Here in the Charlotte area
the buzz word is NASCAR. Even if you never make it to the
speedway you can still get caught up in the parades, race
cars and celebrities that are all over town.

Paul Newman is making the rounds and at 81 (yes, 81!) he
still has a magnetism that draws attention. Several years
ago my sister was in the checkout lane at the grocery store
and noticed everyone was whispering and staring at a man
standing in line. It was none other than ol' blue eyes!
His purchase? Paul Newman Popcorn!
Easy And Inexpensive
One of my favorite DIY projects for this time of year
is to gather up items that are looking a little worn and
spray paint them. It is fast, easy and inexpensive. I
love those characteristics in a project.
Outdoor furniture and planters will greatly benefit from
a fresh coat of paint. Look for an exterior spray paint
that is formulated to adhere to plastics. This quick
drying paint will jazz up inexpensive chairs and tables
as well as weather worn flower pots.
What Can I Paint?
Baskets, vases, frames and furniture can all be reinvented
with spray paint. The finishes available are amazing. An
inexpensive lamp base becomes a custom accessory when it
is sprayed with a hammered metal finish. Crackle paint will
turn a plain table into an instant antique.
Your young diva will love it when you add shimmer to her
furniture with spray glitter. The possibilities for an
instant decor change are endless.
6 Professional Tips For Professional Results
1.) Protect Surrounding Surfaces
A big piece of plastic on the ground is ideal. There will
be overspray, so find an area away from the house and cars.
Note the wind direction. If you can't paint outdoors, make
sure your area is well ventilated.
2.) Practice First On A Piece Of Cardboard Or Newspaper.
This will quickly give you a feel for the correct amount of
paint to apply.
3.) Spray In Two Directions and Check The Reverse Angle.
Always begin and end the spraying off the object. Release
the button at the end of each pass. Check the reverse angle,
especially on any louvered item.
4.) Keep The Spray At A 90 Degree Angle To The Surface
It's all about applying the paint evenly.
5.) Move Your Whole Arm
Keep your wrist locked. You'll have much more control and
you'll end up with a smoother coat.
6.) Plan On Several Coats and WAIT Between Coats
You will be tempted to spray too much or to apply additional
coats too soon. You must wait! This is usually the critical
difference between a poor paint job and a great one.
I hope you enjoy your holiday weekend. It is such a privilege
to have a time to remember and honor those that fought for
our freedom.
